Image quality reducer

Reduce image quality to make a smaller JPG or WebP. Try compression presets, inspect the actual result at full size and compare bytes before downloading.

Private · processed on your device

Choose an image

Drop one PNG, JPG or still WebP.

Up to 10 MiB, 12 million pixels and 4,096 pixels per side.

No image selected.

Reduce size, then inspect detail

PNG preserves decoded pixels and transparency. It may increase file size.

Try a preset, then compare your result at 100% size. The original image stays unchanged.

Quality is an encoder setting, not a percentage of retained image quality. Higher quality usually uses more bytes. JPG and WebP use lossy color encoding, even at 100.

Need a specific file-size limit? Compress to a target size.

Undo restores your image, settings, comparison view and download after edits or Clear. A successful conversion or replacement ends recovery.

Inspect your result

Choose an image to begin.

Toggle original and converted to compare. At 100% size, scroll inside the preview to inspect details. The checkerboard shows transparency.

No output prepared.

Find a useful balance between detail and size

  1. Choose a JPG, still PNG or still WebP.
  2. Start with Balanced (60). Try Stronger (35) for more compression, or Gentler (85) to retain more detail.
  3. Preview the result. Toggle Original and the labeled quality result at 100% size to inspect faces, fine text and edges.
  4. Check the actual file size and download the version you prefer.

What the quality number means

This number controls the new encoder. It is not a measured percentage of the original image's quality, and it does not report the original file's quality setting. Every preview starts from your uploaded image, avoiding repeated compression of earlier results. Dimensions stay unchanged. Lower settings usually reduce bytes but can add visible artifacts. A new file may still be larger than the original.

Transparency and format

JPG uploads default to JPG output. PNG and WebP uploads default to WebP so transparency is retained. You can choose either output format. JPG needs a solid background for transparent pixels; WebP keeps alpha. PNG has no comparable lossy-quality slider, so PNG input is converted. Keep the original when exact pixels matter. For a required file-size limit, use Compress image to target size.

Local processing

No upload or saved drafts. Still files only, up to 10 MiB, 12 million pixels and 4,096 pixels per side. Animation is rejected. Metadata is removed. Browser color management and encoding can vary. Undo restores your image, quality, comparison view and completed download after edits or Clear, until a successful preview or accepted replacement. Cancel retains available work; native operations may finish in the background, with 30-second wait deadlines. Bad replacements preserve your previous image and ready download.
