How to convert JPG to PNG
- Choose or drop one JPG image.
- Review the original preview, then select Convert to PNG.
- Switch between original and converted previews, compare exact file sizes, and download your PNG.
Example
A 1,200 × 800 JPG becomes a 1,200 × 800 PNG. The conversion changes the file format without resizing the image.
What conversion can and cannot do
PNG uses lossless encoding of the browser-decoded image. It cannot recover detail already lost to JPG compression, and it does not remove backgrounds or add transparency to an opaque source. PNG files can be substantially larger.
Privacy and limits
Files stay on your device. A failed or cancelled replacement preserves the selected JPG and any prepared PNG. Cancel processing discards late work without clearing available results. Undo Clear restores the image, comparison view and download; an accepted replacement or successful conversion ends recovery. Preparation and conversion waits have 30-second deadlines; native work already running cannot be forcibly interrupted. Maximum input: 10 MB, 12 million pixels and 4,096 pixels per side. EXIF orientation is applied; metadata is removed. Browser color management and decoding may change pixel representation. This tool accepts JPG only and processes one image at a time.
Why did my file grow?
PNG usually needs more bytes for photographic content than JPG. Choose PNG for workflows that require it, rather than assuming it will compress a photo.
