Convert a transparent PNG
- Choose or drop a still PNG.
- Start with Balanced quality. Choose High quality for detailed graphics or Smaller file when size matters more.
- Convert, compare the original and encoded WebP on checkerboard, light or dark backgrounds, then download.
Transparency stays; color detail may change
Transparent and partially transparent pixels remain transparent. The checkerboard is only a preview background. This tool uses lossy WebP color encoding, even at quality 100. Fine text, sharp colored edges and logos may look different; keep your original PNG when exact pixels matter. File-size savings are not guaranteed.
Files and privacy
Use one still PNG up to 10 MiB, 12 million pixels and 4,096 pixels per side. Animated PNG is rejected explicitly rather than losing its frames. Oriented image dimensions are retained. Metadata is removed on export. The browser handles color management and encoding, which can vary between browsers.
No upload or saved draft. Cancel processing preserves available work and discards late results. Undo changes restores the source, quality, comparison and download after edits or Clear; successful conversion or accepted replacement ends recovery. Native operations may finish in the background, with 30-second wait deadlines. Invalid replacements preserve your ready download. Browsers without WebP encoding show an explicit error.
