Text and Tamil tools

Sort lines

Sort text lines locally by language, natural digit groups, Unicode code points or grapheme length. Keep duplicates, blank records and original line values.

One item per line. Paste or import a TXT list; your source stays unchanged. Up to 100,000 UTF-16 units.

Sort words using the selected language.

Comparison options

Original line values remain unchanged. Case/accent comparison applies only to alphabetical and natural sorting. Language does not affect Unicode character order.

Paste lines to begin. Live preview is on.

Import a local TXT file

Choose or drop one UTF-8 .txt file up to 400 KB. Undo restores your previous text.

Sort a list

  1. Paste or import one item per line and select a method and direction.
  2. Choose a language for native collation, and optional comparison keys.
  3. Review the live result or switch off Preview while I type for manual control, then copy or download.

All records remain, including duplicates and blank lines. Lines that compare equally retain their original relative order in both directions. Line values keep their original spelling, spacing and case. This tool does not remove duplicates, interpret meaning or clean the text.

Sorting methods

Locale alphabetical order uses the browser's native language collation. Natural order also compares digit groups, so x2 precedes x10. It is not a parser for negative numbers, decimals, scientific notation or monetary amounts. Base-letter comparison follows the selected language's rules, which can still distinguish letters that another language considers equivalent. The result shows the locale actually used; browser locale data and fallback can vary. Native collation reference.

Unicode code-point order compares Unicode scalar values, including whole supplementary characters, with shorter prefixes first. It provides a deterministic character order rather than a language alphabet. Grapheme length compares user-perceived character clusters using native Intl.Segmenter, rather than UTF-16 units or display width. Equal lengths retain input order. Missing native collation or segmentation produces a clear error; code-point mode remains available.

Import and recovery

Use example supplies a list suited to the selected method. Live sorting waits for a 450 ms pause and finishes input-method composition before updating. Review result moves focus directly to the output, including on mobile. The moved count compares each record’s original and final positions; equal-key records retain their original order.

UTF-8 TXT import removes an initial BOM and converts CRLF/CR to LF. Invalid files preserve the draft and result; editing cancels stale reads. Large pastes use one validated replacement. Import, example, large paste, Clear and Use result have a single undo step, discarded when you type or change settings. Clear keeps settings. Use result replaces the source only when you choose it; Undo restores the previous list.

Line endings and privacy

Records recognize CRLF as one separator, LF, CR, U+0085 NEXT LINE, U+2028 LINE SEPARATOR and U+2029 PARAGRAPH SEPARATOR. Output delimiters use LF. A final delimiter terminates the last record rather than adding an empty record; it is preserved when records remain. Empty input has zero records. Original TXT preserves the current textarea value; browsers normalize textarea CR/CRLF to LF, so clipboard encoding cannot be recovered.

Outer-whitespace keys remove Unicode White_Space only at the edges, preserving internal whitespace and zero-width formatting characters. No normalization is applied to line values. Processing uses a local worker with a ten-second timeout and a 100,000 UTF-16-unit cap. Cancel terminates it; edits clear stale results. No upload, storage, external API, executable HTML or user-defined regex. Unpaired surrogates are rejected for valid UTF-8 exports. If clipboard copying is blocked, download or select the output.
