Record a useful clip
- Choose audio, quality and an available file format. Use the browser’s source picker to select a tab, window or display.
- Review the live preview and check the audio meter. If shared sound is missing, select a supported source and enable Share audio in the browser picker.
- Press Start recording, wait for the optional countdown and switch to your chosen source. Pause omits that interval from the video, but sharing remains active.
- Press Stop and save, or use the browser’s Stop sharing control. Review playback and download the file before leaving.
Browser and output limits
Screen capture requires HTTPS or localhost and a supporting desktop browser. Available capture sources, audio and codecs depend on your browser and operating system. Unsupported browsers show an explanation. There is no mobile-screen-capture workaround. WebM or MP4 is encoded natively when supported; this tool does not transcode files or promise every player can read them. A local worker adds missing WebM duration metadata when possible. If that repair is unavailable, the native file remains downloadable with a seeking notice.
Quality is a request up to 1080p or 720p at 30 fps; the browser and source determine actual dimensions and frame rate. Preview details report the actual source settings. A 20-minute session limit includes pauses. The tool requests a stop near 112 MiB and limits retained recording data to 128 MiB per take. Delayed native chunks can exceed that limit; an oversized take is discarded while a previously completed take stays available. Choose shorter clips or 720p if needed.
Local processing and cleanup
Video and audio stay in this browser and are not uploaded or saved as a draft. Source access starts only through your explicit button press and browser permission. The preview is muted to avoid feedback; selected audio is still captured. When both audio sources are present, each is mixed at half gain. Use the level meter and playback to check audibility.
Stop, Discard and leaving the page release capture tracks. Cancelled permission requests may leave the browser’s picker visible; dismiss it there. Any late stream returned is stopped. Unused source previews close after five minutes. Permission waits time out after two minutes. Unfinished or undownloaded recordings can be lost when the tab closes or the browser runs out of memory. Downloads already saved on your device are unaffected by Clear.
