Explore regular monthly investment growth with an assumed return and explicit contribution timing.

Your investment assumptions

Starting values are examples. Enter your own assumptions; returns are not guaranteed and investments can lose value.

Effective annual return, held constant. Use a negative rate to explore losses.

1–600 monthly contributions. Fractional years must equal whole months.

Beginning contributions receive that month's assumed growth; end contributions start growing the following month.

Currency sets the money unit. It does not convert exchange rates.

Smooth assumed growth; fees, taxes and market volatility are excluded.

How to use this projection

  1. Enter a fixed monthly investment and an assumed effective annual return.
  2. Choose a duration in months or years and whether contributions happen at the beginning or end of each month.
  3. Calculate, compare invested/projected curves, browse every monthly row and download the projection. Compare different assumptions before relying on an estimate.

Model and formula

Monthly growth i = (1 + annual return ÷ 100)1/12 − 1. For monthly contribution P and n months, end-of-month future value is P × [(1 + i)n − 1] ÷ i. Beginning-of-month contributions multiply that result by (1 + i). With 0% return, value is P × n.

This effective annual conversion follows the HDFC Mutual Fund SIP formula. At an assumed 12% annual return, the monthly rate is about 0.9489%, rather than 1%. The Microsoft FV reference also distinguishes beginning and end payment timing.

Worked example

Investing 100 units at the end of each month for 12 months at 0% return gives 1,200 units. A single end-of-month contribution has no growth during that month. A beginning-of-month contribution has one month of assumed growth.

Assumptions and limits

Contributions and growth stay constant. The model excludes fees, taxes, inflation, withdrawals, daily pricing, missed instalments and market volatility. It estimates a smooth growth path; real mutual fund returns vary and are not guaranteed. Negative assumed returns model a loss. Bounds: monthly investment 0.01–1 billion units, annual return −90% to 100%, and 1–600 whole months. These bounds are numeric limits, not suggested investment amounts or returns.

Results are estimates, not financial advice. The CSV includes every month and the input assumptions. Tiny nonzero and very large values may use scientific notation. Display and export rounding can cause small differences. Values stay in browser memory without uploads or saved financial inputs. Reset restores illustrative defaults and clears the result. Compare contribution timing or a zero-growth scenario, then Undo to recover raw inputs, currency search and the previous projection range. Undo also works after recalculation; editing discards the saved recovery snapshot.

Why do SIP calculators disagree?

Some divide annual return by 12 as a nominal rate. This calculator treats it as an effective annual return. Contribution dates, fees and rounding can also differ.

Does this calculate actual fund performance?

No. It uses your assumed constant growth rate. It does not fetch fund prices or calculate an actual portfolio return.
