Calculation
Reinvestment: balance = P × (1 + r ÷ n)n × months ÷ 12. Interest is balance − P; periodic payout is zero. Simple payout estimate: total interest = P × r × months ÷ 12, full-period payout = P × r ÷ n, and deposit balance remains P. Here r is the annual percentage divided by 100 and n is periods per year.
At 1,000 units, nominal 12%, 12 months and quarterly reinvestment, balance is about 1,125.51. With the simple quarterly payout model, interest is 120, each full quarter pays 30 and the deposit balance remains 1,000.
HDFC Bank’s FD explanation distinguishes cumulative compounding from periodic interest payout. Our estimate uses equal periods and does not reproduce a particular bank’s booking-date or payout rules.
Assumptions and limits
The rate stays fixed. Reinvestment uses a fractional exponent for a partial period; the simple payout model prorates a final incomplete period linearly and treats that interest as a separate receipt. Periodic payouts are not reinvested. Actual banks may discount monthly payouts or apply daily accrual and different partial-period rules. Compare the calculation with your deposit agreement.
Taxes/TDS, penalties, premature withdrawal, special customer rates, fees, calendar dates and leap-year day counts are excluded. Principal 0.01–1 trillion units; annual rate 0–100%; term 1–600 whole months. These are numeric bounds, not bank product terms. This is an estimate, not advice, a quote or a guarantee.
Privacy and export
Values stay in browser memory without uploads or saved financial inputs. CSV contains the model, entered rate and term, deposit balance, interest, total receipts and full-period payout. It is a summary, not a dated payment schedule. Display uses currency precision and CSV six decimals. Reset clears output and restores defaults. Undo last action restores your previous inputs, term unit, currency search and calculated comparison after Reset or selecting a treatment from the comparison cards. Editing an input discards that recovery step. Amounts of 10²¹ or more use scientific notation on screen; CSV keeps the available numeric precision.
Why are maturity balance and total receipts different?
In payout mode, interest leaves the deposit during the term, so the deposit balance stays at principal. Total receipts adds all modeled interest to returned principal.
Are taxes or senior-citizen rates included?
No. Enter your actual applicable rate yourself. This calculator does not determine tax treatment, eligibility or a special rate.
