From notes to a readable document
Write in the editor and see the formatted result beside it. On a small screen the preview follows the editor. Use the formatting buttons on selected text, or type Markdown directly. Turn off Update as I type when you prefer to edit first and preview once. Large documents require the Update preview button to avoid interrupting your typing.
Choose the Markdown your document uses
CommonMark supports headings, paragraphs, emphasis, lists, quotes, links and fenced code blocks. GitHub-style extensions adds tables, task lists, strikethrough, autolinks and footnotes. Task checkboxes are a preview of your source; change [ ] to [x] in the editor to mark one complete.
This is not a pixel-for-pixel GitHub page. Code is displayed without syntax highlighting. Math, diagrams, MDX components, frontmatter configuration and embedded widgets are not processed. Raw HTML is displayed literally, so a tag such as <script> never runs.
What happens to images and links?
Images become labelled descriptions in both the preview and HTML export. Remote, relative, data and embedded images are not loaded. This keeps pasted documents from silently contacting another website. HTTP, HTTPS and mailto links remain usable when you choose to click; relative links and unsupported schemes are made inactive because this editor has no folder or base URL for your document. Generated footnote links stay within the document.
Export the version you reviewed
Download HTML creates a complete styled page that opens offline and can be printed from your browser. Its title comes from the first heading. Copy HTML copies only the sanitized content fragment for use in another page. Download Markdown saves your source exactly, including imported BOM and line endings until you edit. Images remain placeholders and raw HTML stays escaped in HTML exports.
Editing hides obsolete exports until the new preview succeeds. Clear, example, import, large paste and formatting buttons provide one Undo replacement; ordinary typing clears that history. Undo restores your saved Markdown style, live-preview setting and source filename. Formatting buttons keep your place in the editor, including on Undo. The example selects GitHub-style mode so its tables and checklists render as intended. Nothing is saved automatically, so download your work before leaving.
Limits and privacy
Processing uses a local worker with a ten-second deadline and Cancel. Input is limited to 256 KiB of UTF-8, rendered HTML to 2 MiB, and parsed content to 30,000 nodes and 100 nesting levels. File reading also has a ten-second deadline. Invalid UTF-8, literal NUL and isolated Unicode surrogates produce an error while preserving useful input. No cloud conversion, uploaded files, analytics content or remote fonts are involved.
Parsing uses remark and a restrictive rehype sanitizer. See the CommonMark specification, open-source notices, or the HTML formatter for formatting existing HTML source.
